WWII Imperial Japanese Army Russo-Japanese War Photo Album 1935 Weapons: $250.00
DescriptionThis is a large-format Japanese military photo book published in 1935 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Russo-Japanese War.The Russo-Japanese War was fought between Japan and the Russian Empire from 1904 to 1905, mainly over influence in Manchuria and Korea. Major events included the Siege of Port Arthur and the Battle of Tsushima, making the conflict one of the most important turning points in modern Japanese military history. This volume contains a large number of photographs documenting the war, including army commanders, battlefield scenes, Port Arthur, naval operations, warships, troops, and other military subjects. What makes this book especially interesting is that it does not end with the 1904–1905 war.The volume also includes material described as:“Supplement: New Army and Navy Weapons / Materials from the Army Kaikosha Collection.”Kaikosha was an organization closely associated with officers of the Imperial Japanese Army. The wording here indicates that photographs and materials held by Kaikosha were used in the production of this book. The book therefore serves two historical purposes at once.It looks back at the Russo-Japanese War from the perspective of Japan in 1935, while also presenting what were then considered modern Japanese Army and Navy weapons and military technology.Photographs include military vehicles, aircraft, warships, field operations, commanders, and other subjects that show how Japan connected the memory of its Meiji-era war with the military modernization of the 1930s.For collectors, this creates a particularly interesting bridge between two periods of Japanese military history: the Russo-Japanese War and the years immediately preceding World War II.Although this was a commercially published book, surviving examples are now approximately 90 years old, and the combination of Russo-Japanese War photography, Imperial Japanese Army and Navy material, Kaikosha archival imagery, and 1930s military technology gives this volume strong historical value. The book shows age-related wear and use. There is damage and folding to the final page. Please review the photographs carefully for condition. This is more than a collection of old war photographs. It shows how Japan in 1935 chose to remember a major war fought thirty years earlier—and how that memory was presented alongside the military technology of a new era.Own a Piece of History.Shipping FedEx or Japan Post International Buyers - Please Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer\'s responsibility. Please check with your country\'s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to offerding or buying.
