WWII Royal Air Force (RAF) Series 43 A/B silk (rayon) escape map 1943 For Sale

Up for sale from my collection is this rare WWII British Royal Air Force (RAF) Series 43 A/B silk(rayon) escape map from 1943. It covers Northwest Europe, including parts ofFrance, Belgium, Holland, and the Spanish/Swiss borders.

It was created by MI9 (the British military intelligence section responsible for escape and evasion) using cartography adapted from John Bartholomew & Son Ltd.

• Side A Coverage: Features Northwest France, West and Central Belgium, parts of the Netherlands (Holland), and the Pyrenees.
• Side B Coverage: Covers Southwest France and Northern Spain, with an inset of the German-Swiss border.
• Material: Fine silk or rayon chosen because it was durable, highly concealable, could be sewn into clothing, and did not rustle or make noise when handled in secret.
• Scale: Typically printed at scale 1:1,000,000 to assist shot-down aircrews in evading capture and finding neutral territory.
• The map is 71 cm (26 inches)square.
• It is in good used condition with one small stain and a few tiny edge and fold splits.
