The canvas cover is clearly ink stamped “JEFF. Q.M.D. 1942,” identifying it with the Jeffersonville Quartermaster Depot. Surviving WWII canteen covers with this marking and date are documented by militaria collectors.
The cover also bears a faded former owner\'s name/marking. It appears to read something similar to “LARRY KNOS…”, but the exact spelling is unclear, so no identification of the original owner is being claimed.
IMPORTANT: The aluminum canteen included with the cover is stamped “JAPAN” on the bottom and is believed to be a later replacement. It is not being represented as the original WWII canteen that was issued with this 1942 cover.
