Up for sale/sale is a 100% original, combat-issued World War II U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) M1938 Canvas Dispatch Map Case. This piece features incredible historical character and a beautiful field-worn patina, making it an excellent addition
to any WWII Pacific Theater display.
Key Features & Markings:
• Maker Marked: The reverse side is clearly ink-stamped with the premier wartime contractor name: "BOYT" over the year "-44-" (1944).
• Branch Stencil: The inside flap features a crisp, authentic "U.S.M.C." stencil, proving its issue to the United States Marine Corps.
Hardware: Retains its original canvas shoulder web strap with vintage metal spring swivel clips and D-rings. Internal "Lift-the-Dot" alignment studs are intact.
• Interior: Features the standard multi-slot stationery pocket layout designed to hold field pencils, grease crayons, and rulers.
Condition Notes (Please Review Photos):
This map case has a true "been-there" field appearance. The canvas has weathered from its original olive drab to a salty, yellowish-tan khaki shade from sun and field exposure. The lower front flap has frayed holes where the female socket portions of the "Lift-the-Dot" fasteners have pulled through the fabric over time (the sockets are missing, but the male posts remain on the body of the bag). There are light scuffs, minor frays, and field stains throughout as expected with actual combat gear.
No major structural fabric rots.
