The book is structured as a large storybook format spanning roughly 160 pages. Rather than focusing on just one film, it aggregated the narratives of Disney's most successful animated adaptations up to that date: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Pinocchio (1940), Alice in Wonderland (1951), Cinderella (1950), Peter Pan (1953), Sleeping Beauty (1959).
What sets this vintage line apart from standard modern coloring books is its structural design. Many of the pages inside this Whitman oversized edition came from the factory with pre-printed colored sections. This was done so children could color in the characters while the backgrounds or specific elements remained beautifully rendered in full color, giving the finished project a hybrid "fairytale storybook" feel.
The book's internal content and layout adaptation were spearheaded by notable artists, primarily Peter J. Alvarado Jr. (with David Hoffman). Alvarado was an incredibly influential pioneer in American animation and comic art whose career spanned nearly 60 years. After graduating from the Chouinard Art Institute, he was hired as an assistant animator at Walt Disney Studios.He later worked extensively across major golden-age animation powerhouses, including Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbera.
