I am very pleased to offer this gorgeous remanufactured ceramic tile which features the intricate tile pattern used in the First Class Turkish Bath Cooling Room of RMS Titanic and RMS Olympic. These same tiles are on display at the Titanic Exhibition in Singapore. These are full size museum quality tiles, measuring 6x6 inches each.
These tiles are the result of a 200+ hour project to remanufacture the world's most accurate Turkish Bath Cooling Room tile panel for our private collection. We are now giving you the opportunity to add these to your own collection or museum.
These tiles have been digitally painted from scratch, spanning a timeline of nearly 100 hours to completion. Countless visual resources were referenced for historical accuracy, notably the Malibu Tile Works Replica which was on display at the Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in 2017 and 2018.The Cooling Room of the Turkish Bathon board RMS Titanicwas a luxurious and visually striking space designed for relaxation after the intense heat of the steam and hot rooms. It was part of the first-class Turkish Bath complex, which included a series of exotic rooms modeled in the Moorish Revival styleβa popular aesthetic for spas at the time. The room was richly decorated in the Moorish style, featuring vibrant tiles, carved woodwork, stained glass, and colorful Islamic-inspired patterns. This exotic aesthetic was intended to evoke the feel of a Middle Eastern bathhouse.
The original tile work was produced by Pilkington's Lancastrian Pottery & Tiles, which was founded in 1892, and commissioned by the White Star Line for RMS Titanic and RMS Olympic. John Chambers (1869-1945) is the designer of this specific tile pattern, who joined Pilkington's early on as a company. Chambers was instrumental in shaping the company's design direction, later becoming the head of the architectural pottery department, and was particularly known for his work designing these iconic "Persian-Style" wall tiles.
