Three-time Democratic presidential nominee Bryan was one of the most influential orators of the Progressive Era, famed for his “Cross of Gold” speech and later for leading the prosecution in the 1925 Scopes “Monkey” Trial. Original cabinet-room photographs of Bryan are scarce; secure this striking portrait of America’s “Great Commoner” before another history lover does.

Print analysis: Vintage gelatin-silver press print produced by Brown Brothers from the original negative within the 1913-1915 period (Type 1). The etched negative caption and agency stamp, along with paper age, support a contemporaneous printing rather than a later reproduction. Also note the reversed text at the top, which only happens from original glass negative prints!
