In the early 1980s, underground cartoonist Robert Crumb contributed artwork, spot illustrations, editorial cartoons, and mastheads for Winds of Change, a bi-monthly environmental and community newspaper published out of Davis, California (Yolo County).
- Role & Contribution: Crumb volunteered for the publication for several years, helping design memorable covers, alternative mastheads (including a Halloween-themed pesticide issue in 1980 and MC Escher-inspired lettering in 1981.
- Experience: While he supported the publication's ecological and political focus, Crumb eventually found the consensus-building meetings and group-run staff dynamic creatively stifling.Due to limited local-only distribution, all issues remain scarce.
