c.1870s Lotta Crabtree CDV by Napoleon Sarony – 680 Broadway “Little Nell” Portrait
Original 19th-century CDV of celebrated American stage actress Lotta Crabtree (1847–1924), photographed by Napoleon Sarony at his famous 680 Broadway studio in New York. This portrait shows Crabtree in costume as “Little Nell,” one of her well-known roles from the popular melodrama The Streets of New York.
Crabtree was one of the most prominent entertainers of the late 19th century, known for her comic performances, dance, and musical comedy work. Sarony’s portraits of major theatrical stars are widely collected, and this image is a characteristic example of his soft lighting, careful posing, and composed studio backdrop.
