DESCRIPTION:
Original antique printed broadside entitled “THE DYING BOY.” The piece presents a lengthy sentimental poem concerning the death of a young boy, printed in two columns with a decorative dividing rule.
The poem recounts a dying child's final conversation with his family. He addresses his mother, father, brother, and sister, speaking of prayer, heaven, his garden, and his approaching death. He asks that something living be planted in his garden as a remembrance and requests that his sister place a rose upon his tomb. The poem concludes with morning arriving and the boy found dead upon his couch.
