El Tovar Hotel This enchanting hotel, described as the architectural crown jewel of the Grand Canyon, opened for business on January 14, 1905. Designed for the Santa Fe Railroad by architect Charle F. Whittlesey, it is named for the Spanish explorer Don Pedro Tovar, who visited the Hopi towns but not the Grand Canyon in 1540. With its rustic design, Whittlesey strove to create a hotel. at the edge of the South Rim, that would compliment the unearthly wonder of the Grand Canyon. 1994 BEGONIE\'S COLLECTION HAND-CRAFTED IN USA
