Price: $135.00 USD Description: This is a very nice, clean, early 1900's antique set of extension lip spur auger bits with the tapered ends to fit the antique style hand brace chucks. The set was made by and marked "THE RUSSELL JENNINGS MFG. CO. CHESTER" and so reads the light orange with black lettering label on the inside box cover. The label as you can see in the picture is about 98% intact, just a few marks from auger bits rubbing against it slightly, considered minor wear, nice. These are all Russell Jennings patern bits, all with the fine thread type lead screws and double spurs and twists. They are so marked,"RUSSELL JENNINGS" on the shank, and the number size on the tapered area. All but the No. 5 & 6 are the original early 1900's bits. The 5 & 6 are RUSSELL JENNINGS, but are also marked "NO. 100" on just those two. All bits are in very good to new, useable condition, no rust, no damage, nice! They are in different sizes: 4,5,6,7,8,9 on the top tray and 10, 11, 12, 13 on the middle section, and on the bottom tray 14, 15, 16/16ths. The corners are all strong lap joints or sometimes called finger joint construction, in good+ shape. There is some wear on the original varnish finish and some small dings and scratches, minor staining on the exterior, the lower two compartments have a black stain inside, on the back lip and corner area, otherwise the box wood is in very nice, solid shape. The brass hardware is also in very good working condition, with some surface tarnish noted on the hinges and latches. A very well known quality tool maker, and a nice example of their product!

Price: $90.00 USD Description: Offering this nice, clean No. 4 size (9" long) (smooth bottom) smooth plane retaining about 30% of it's original paint intact. This is a rare plane marked in cast letting in front of the knob "GOODELL". We have had this plane for a number of years, hoping to find more information about which Goodell made or marked it. It is a unique design! It has no lateral adjustment, but has a depth adjustment similar to a gage plane. The is a L-shaped bracket that is attached to the back of the cutter, one leg of the bracket fits snug into a slot in the threaded thumbscrew, works real well. It has an overall lower profile in design, even the handle is shorter than say a Stanley No. 4 smooth plane, but otherwise the footprint is the same as the Stanley No. 40. The low profile handle has a washer and nut, instead of the normal hidden countersink type of nut like on the Stanley models. This plane is in good working condition, but has a few tight hairline cracks around the mouth and on the sides near the cross pin. These hairline cracks are not mismatched with the joining surface, and none of them goes to the extend of a piece breaking off even in normal use. But I would reccomend using this plane, since it is so rare and unique. The wood appears to be hardwood to me, handle and front knob. The tote or handle has has a rosewood stain and clear lacquer finish, some stain worn of, not as much stain on the front knob, both are solid no cracks. Both are nice looking, nice smooth finish, functional. This plane cutter iron is 2" wide, and is not marked. There is some wear, a few edge dings, no pitting, a few small imperfection in the casting, small voids along the top of one side. The bottom is clean, flat and smooth, no rust, very clean. There is plenty of length on the sharp cutter, and all the adjustments work smoothly. This plane has a good cast thread post behind the cast frog area, very sturdy, works just fine. This casting appears to be an earlier casting from around the mid-1800's era, but it is hard to tell for sure. The purpose of the metal plate that is attached to the underside of the cap cover is not clear to us, but I think it was allow the user to attach different types of chip breakers to the cap as desired. One could also adjust the chip breaker section a little bit also, since the two screw fit through slotted holes. Lots of intersting design detail on this one, yet no patent numbers or dated marked on it anywhere! Unique, and rare!

We also note another good repair of a crack near the bottom, the handle was removed and tested, all in one piece, solid repairs and very strong. We also not a past owner's name neatly stamped on both side of the tote. The front knob has minor wear, a few small dings and scratches very solid. Both are nice looking, nice smooth finish, functional. This plane cutter iron is 2" wide, and marked "UNION MFG. CO. NEW BRITAIN CT. U.S.A." on the cutter. C. STEARNS & CO. SYRACUSE N.Y. U.S.A.". It measures 10.6" jaw width, 12" from the top of the jaws to the base tip of the wing screw as shown in the 1st picture. The round wheel allow the user to pivot the vise casting on the clamp casting to angle the vise to a more comfortable filing position for the user. This vise is in very good working condition, very good jaw alignment, holds saw very tightly. This design once had a round rubber strip that was glued into the one side of the vise jaw, as to help dampen the noise created during filing process, that rubber strip is missing, the slot for it is there, you can glue a new piece in if you wish. The appearance condition is good, very little surface rust noted, a few places about impossible to get back into to wipe off, so some minor surface rust is seen there, otherwise rust free, very little of the original paint is intact.
