For your consideration is this Excellent Genuine WW2 Imperial Japanese Army Officer\'s Sword(Shin-Gunto) with late warType 3 mounts (also sometimes called a Model 1944 or sometimes incorrectly called a Naval Landing Force sword or a Marine sword) that has been in my collection for several years and was obtained from an uncle\'s collectionwho was in the US Marines in WW2 andwho sawcombat in the Pacific theater. These swords are rare in this excellent condition after 70plus years andwould be a greatinvestment and/or great addition to any historical militaria collection. If you want the best, here you go - as with most collectables, the \"best\" goes up in value the \"most\" over time.

Condition: This sword isin excellent conditionbut in no way is this sword a fake or a reproduction. Theblade is in excellentcondition - very sharp - in a very good state of polish with some slight age discoloration but with no nicks, dents or bends and the point(kissaki) is intact. The scabbard(saya)isin excellent conditionand hasthe inner wood liningwith a fewminor scrapes to the paint but no dents, and a light area of rust just above the drag(koijiri) butno otherdamage. The originalhiltwrap(tsuka ito)issomewhat worn & soiled but tight andin very good condition over all. All Type 3 fittings are present with a rare steel, threaded screw peg(mekugi) holding hilt to sword which wasintroduced in some late war swords and a rare cupped seppa to seal the throat of the scabbard(koiguchi) - the ashi(scabbard hanger) and tsuba(sword guard) are steel whichwas thencopper washed for rust prevention and thenwas painted black for camouflage in the field - two seppa(tsuba washers) are of German silver and the cupped seppa appears to be of bronze or copper and the habaki(sword collar) is brass all consistent with Type 3 fittings.

I had thesword inspected byJapanese sword expertsand they assure me the sword is absolutely original to WW2 and hard to find in this excellent condition with the steel screw mekugi - theyread the sword maker signature and date on the tangas:Toshiharu and dated December, 1944. There is alsowhat appears to be a Showaarsenal stamp on the tang in two places and some painted arsenal numbers as well as a stamped number.

For Collectors: I have been a collector of Japanese swords(Guntos & older)for over 40yrs. - most present day Japanese WW2 historians/collectors call this swordthe Type 3 Army Officers Sword Shin-Gunto because it\'s the 3rd and last incarnation of theShin-Gunto(New Military Sword) after the Types 94& 98 Shin-Guntos and also because the \"3\" indicates that it was first introduced in 1943. The Type 3was designed to be more functional, more durableand to correct problems that occurred in the field with those older Types 94 & 98swords. Some collectors(& books)have taken to calling this a Model 1944 which makes no sense when you consider itwas first introduced in 1943- I have one dated in 1943and have seen others. To call it a Marine sword is technically wrong since after the Russo/Japanese War of 1905 Japan stopped using thename \"Marine\" and began using \"Special Naval Landing Forces\"(NLF) instead but NLF swords were Type 97 Naval Kai-Gunto swords not Army Shin-Gunto swords like the Type 3 is.

offer with confidence:I am not a dealer, just a collector who is getting on in years and is reducing his collection but I am dedicated to excellent customer service - your satisfaction is essential to me - check my response, I\'m anhonest seller - this sword is what I say itis and I guarantee it to be original to WW2 Imperial Japan. Anything you buy from me can be returned in the condition it was received within 14 days for a refund for any reason or no reason at all. If there are any issues, questions or problems with anything I sell, please contact me directly and I will take care of any issue promptly and in a professional and courteous manner.

To International buyers: I can ship to many countries outside the US but some countries specifically prohibit the importing of swords and it is the responsibility of the international buyer to determine if your country will permit the importing of this sword and to deal with any of your country\'s customs issues. So far I know I cannot ship a sword to Japan(including APO\'s based there), UK, Italy,Russia & Indonesia.
