GOLAY FILS GENEVA MANTLE CLOCK MARBLE Swiss ANTIQUE RUNS & CHIMES For Sale

A handsome antique marble mantle clock by the renowned Swiss watch & clock maker, Auguste Golay Leresche. Clock chimes on the hour and half hour for your review. The movement is marked A.1, and with the numbers 1312 and 64; it is possible that the 64 is a reference to 1864, which may have been the year in which the clock was made. The A. Golay Leresche company, was founded in 1837 in Geneva, and sold to Mr. Stahl at the turn of the century, after which it was knows as Golay Fils & Stahl. It was a family run company, that had two stores -- one in Geneva, and another in Paris -- that specialized in the production of high quality watches and clocks, for which they obtained various medals and awards. The company quickly became an important asset to Geneva\'s economy and were recognizable amongst the best watch manufacturers of Switzerland, both nationally and internationally. This particular example has a lovely dial, with golden hour markers and hands, surrounded by a thick golden bezel, which is accessible by a beveled glass door. The clock is housed in a heavy black marble case, embellished with a gilded design, as pictured. Notably, the back of the case has a very pretty cutout design (which has been covered by fabric), presumably to make it easier to hear the clock chiming. The clock case measures approximately 12\" by 9.25\" by 5.5.\"Condition ReportThis clock is in running order, keeping time, and chiming on the hour and half hour (though currently the number of times the clock chimes is not the same as the time on the clock; I am sure this is a simple adjustment, but I don\'t want to mess with the clock, since it is running and chiming so nicely). There is a small chip in the marble along the upper edge of the clock case. There is also a small chip on the lower right hand side. Neither detracts from the beauty and function of this clock.
