<img target=\"_blank\"><img for sell is this J.C. Brown Ripple Case Steeple Clock. This is an outstanding example in wonderful original condition measuring 20 in. tall, 9.5 in. wide and 4 in. deep. The case is mahogany and with applied ripple molding. This pattern is referred to as a \"Wicker\" pattern due to its similarity to the pattern found on wicker furniture. The finish is original to the clock and is very stable. This example retains the original manufacturers label which is pasted inside the case onto the backboard.The signed dial is painted on tin and is original to the clock. The eight day movement is brass, time and hour strike and of good quality. It is die stamped by the Maker on the front plate. The reverse painted tablet is in excellent condition and features a colorful building in the center.The reverse painted glass is original and done by William Bennet Fenn. This clock was made circa 1840. Jonathan Clark Brown (b. 1807-D.1872) Born in Coventry, CT, and he came to Bristol in 1832. He was involved in many firms including The Forestville Manufacturing Co. and the Bristol Clock Co. As a clockmaker, he experienced many financial setbacks in Bristol. He was instrumental and very influential figure in developing the Connecticut clock industry. An innovator, he was responsible for the Acorn clock as well as other interesting designs. Brown left Bristol broke in 1858 and moved to Nyack, New York. He died there in 1872.
