A fine example of a Stanley Bailey No. 26 transitional plane, approx. 15 inches long with a blade width of 2 inches.
This one is extremely rare type 1 all original and complete. This type 1 features a prelateral frog and includes a solid back lever cap with banjo shaped spring. It had a solid brass depth adjustment nut, stamped with \"BAILEY WOODS & CO. \"BOSTON\" \"PATENTED\" Aug 31, 1858, Aug. 6 1867. Only the lower portion of the name Woods is visible. L. BAILEY\'S PATENT, Dec. 24 1867 is stamped on the bade and lower portion of the chip breaker.
Castings and all metal parts are fine, no breaks or repairs.
The wood body is fine with very little wear, no cracks, and still has the original narrow mouth opening.
The toe and rear of the plane has stamped in very small letters, what appears to be \"N. KIGGINS\"
The original Black jappaning finish is great about 80 % or more
The hardwood handles have the very early profiles and are fine and beautiful no breaks or repairs.
