This is a 1946 Gillette Milord with case. The Milord is, essentially, a gold plated Superspeed. There is no date code, however, the T bar isn't notched, which would have been used for Gillette's easy loading system. It also has the end caps. It also has a smooth ring right above the TTO (Twist to Open) on the bottom of the handle. With both of those features, that puts it at 1946, just after the war.
It is made of gold plated stamped brass and made in the USA. The gold plating has worn from 78 years of use. It was caked with old shave soap and needed some TLC. I cleaned it all up, polished it, and sanitized it by boiling it for 5 minutes. On a side note, I did not use an abrasive polish in order to keep what's left of the gold plating in tact.
So, if you're a wet shaver and are looking for a solid vintage Gillette, this is a very good shaver. If you're a beginner or looking to get into wet shaving, this isn't a bad razor for a beginner. It's good for both the beginners and experienced. It has the butterfly mechanism (aka TTO), which is ideal for beginners since it's generally easier than a 3 piece or 2 piece razor. It's not too complex in that it isn't adjustable and the blade exposure and specs are right down the middle. It gives a great shave.
