We recently unpacked the last 80 pipes from my large collection as I prepare for retirement. Here’s another one just cleaned and restored…
This wonderful W.Ø.Larsen (WO Larsen) Sandblasted Canadian Estate Briar Pipe
W.Ø.Larsen was a tobacconist in Copenhagen Denmark in the 1960s, when Danish-style pipes were becoming popular. Larsen set up a workshop to make high-grade Danish pipes, staffed by the emerging masters of Danish pipe-making, such as Sven and Teddy Knudsen, Hans ‘Former’ Nielsen, Jess Chonowitsch, Poul Rasmussen, and Benni Jorgensen.
Today, W.Ø.Larsen is Denmark's oldest and most famous pipe and tobacco store, placed in the center of Copenhagen on the main pedestrian street, Stroget.
Typical for the W.Ø.Larsen School were semi-classic shapes, meaning classic shapes, but with special danish designs. And this Larsen Canadian has plenty to keep Danish and non-Danish fans alike interested. Dressed in an elegant and simple crisp, brown sandblast, interrupted only by a band of smooth-polished briar near the stem, the pipe is surprisingly lightweight and very portable despite its considerable length. This latter aspect, paired with the pipe’s Perspex stem, ensures that it will be an easy and highly comfortable clencher.
Despite being 40-50 years old, the pipe is in excellent condition. Its nomenclature has not faded, and the pipe appears to have been handled with a great deal of care.
