This is a amazing set of photographs that I have never seen before, it is not often you see a ambrotype of a private, and some 30+ years later the same Soldier is a colonel with a photograph.
The ambrotype is of Daniel G more private the 126th Regiment Illinois Infantry, they mustard in September of 1862, in mustard out in July of 1865. They War involved with many Western campaigns, also The Siege of Vicksburg, and the battle of Bayou Fourche. He became a very successful person after the war and at some point
Received a commission as a colonel in the Illinois National Guard which the photo in question was taken sometime in 1894, he was Aide-De-Camp on the governor\'s staff. Included also is a envelope address to him, which verifies his position. As previously stated I have never come across a private photograph from the Civil War who later became a colonel it was also also photograph. This definitely is an extraordinary piece of American history. Ambrotype comes half a case, it appears that it was hanging on a wall. All information verified through descendant.
