The National PeaceJubilee was a musical extravaganza held in Boston, Massachusetts, in June 1869to commemorate the return of peace after the end of the Civil War. Organized bybandleader Patrick S. Gilmore, the festival featured a thousand-piece orchestraand choruses from throughout the country. Organizers built a temporarycoliseum, depicted on this photograph, to seat an audience of 30,000.
