Maker: This beautiful antique pitcher or jug is by England\'s iconic china maker Royal Worcester.
Marks and age: A magenta Royal Worcester mark appears on the base. This mark - with the crown nested on the globe and without the company name - was in use between 1876 and 1890, when the company name was added. The mark appears over the letter O, which indicates that this jug was produced in 1889, making it 134 years old. Source: Museum of Royal Worcester.
The English registration number 17049 on the base indicates that the pattern was registered in 1884. Its production ended in 1914, meaning this jug is one of the earlier \"Blush Ivory\" colored items that Royal Worcester produced.
The letters E and O and the numbers 4 and 7 also appear - they are likely painter\'s marks - along with a stylized letter B. That\'s probably the gilder\'s mark.
Design: The matte finish jug features finely hand painted florals outlined in gold on Worcester\'s classic cream colored porcelain. An ornately sculpted gold handle and two sets of gold dividing lines complement the design. On the top section is an intricate design of raised gold flowers and vines that leads to the handle.
This may be a claret jug, though most claret jugs are a bit taller than this one.
Many top quality makers produced variations of the popular \"Blush Ivory\" patterns in the late 19th and early 20th century. Royal Worcester\'s was the first and is widely acknowledged as the best of the best.
Size: The jug is 6 5/8 inches tall, 2 3/8 inches wide at the top and 4 3/8 inches wide at the base. It weighs 12.2 ounces.
Condition: It has been well cared for throughout its long life and is in excellent condition, especially considering its age and fragile material. It has no marks, nicks, chips, cracks, scratches, stains, repairs or wear. The gold is completely intact. The rim of the base has darkened in spots - that\'s shown in the photos.
This beautiful jug would make an elegant addition to any collection of Royal Worcester or other fine china.
Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
