• The map opens to 27" x 19½" and has great detail on old highwayalignments, including U.S. Route 66, with cartography by Rand McNally.
• There's atranscontinental map of the United States on the reverse side.
• The 5-panel service station illustration was painted by notedAmerican artist Rico Tomaso (1898-1985), whose work also appeared in TheSaturday Evening Post, Redbook, Good Housekeeping, Cosmopolitan,Woman's Home Companion, and Ladies' Home Journal.
• Here he has created a lush landscape evoking the romance of automobiletravel, with two uniformed Sinclair attendants helping a happy couplein a shiny new convertible.
• The map was distributed by the Sinclair Oil Company in 1939 and isdated by the code number in the lower margin: U.3600.
• The 1939 New YorkWorld's Fair opened the year this map was printed, and there's aphotograph of the Petroleum Building and oil derrick at the Fair on thereverse side.
