This is a pipe from my personal collection. It has been smoked perhaps 4 or 5 times, and is in great shape.

It has been cleaned and sanitized, and will be ready to smoke when it arrives at your door!

Other Notes: Great shaping on this one. Sometimes the XL5 pipes can be rather crooked, but this one is nicely symmetrical and centered.

\"In the Deluxe System line, Peterson\'s \"XL315\" is designated as the \"XL5s\" Calabash. It\'s the largest rendition of the \"05\" design — perhaps the most iconic of all Peterson shapes. The shape features a bowl flaring trumpet-like at the rim, a high transition to the shank, and a shank that is wide, muscular, and substantial in hand. Its wide base and smooth curvature, along with its easy-to-grasp, cinched waistline, have been prominent features admired by generations of smokers. Among Peterson\'s oldest and most popular shapes, the \"XL5s\" epitomizes the Peterson design aesthetic, especially with the added benefit of the Irish marque\'s patented System engineering.

Peterson\'s System pipe is one of the Irish marque\'s most celebrated and historic innovations, boasting patents dating back to 1890. The System is comprised of three aspects: an army mount, internal condensation reservoir, and the graduated bore P-Lip mouthpiece (though Peterson does offer fishtail versions to accommodate smokers\' preferences). Being the only externally visible of the three components, the military mount allows the pipe to be broken down even while hot, reinforcing the shank. The other two parts, the internal reservoir and graduated bore, are found within the pipe itself — both working in tandem to remove moisture from the smoke. Such a construction requires a slightly different process when cleaning aSystem pipe, and results in a more flavorful, drier smoke. The Deluxe stamp first appeared on System pipes in 1940, but the design itself dates to Peterson\'s earliest years, with examples found in the 1896 and 1906 catalogs. With the exception of the extremely rare Supreme, it has always marked the highest tier of System pipe. Unlike the System Standard line, Deluxe System pipes feature sterling silver mounts — Peterson\'s silverwork being a significant source of pride and renown for the factory. Boasting select-grade briar, the Deluxe System also benefits from space-fitting stems, evocative of old-school System pipes. Inspired by themadra rua, \"red fox,\" of traditional Irish tales, Peterson\'s Rua finish is a crimson-and-black, contrast-stained sandblast. Not only is it the first of its kind from the Irish marque, it\'s also among the first from any pipe factory, with contrast stains almost exclusively seen across handmade artisan pipes. A contrast finish incorporates two different stain colors, and the labor-intensive, time-consuming process involves staining a pipe one color, sanding down or sandblasting the stummel, and then applying the second stain, with adequate time spent in between to allow each stain to fully settle into the briar. The result is a rich, two-toned motif that simultaneously reveals the briar\'s grain while also providing an intriguing, dramatic contrast between the two separate stains. As such, Peterson\'s Rua pipes capture an unparalleled aesthetic across Peterson\'s portfolio, bespeaking a deep commitment to quality craftsmanship and combining iconic Peterson shaping with modern finishing techniques.

Peterson\'s 125th Anniversary series marks the finalization of Charles Peterson\'s System pipe, as the last System patent, the P-Lip button, was approved in 1898. Celebrating this incredible milestone, each pipe in the 125th anniversary series is stamped with \"1898-2023\" and serialized, making the historic line extremely limited and eminently collectable.
