This listing is for the FOUR VOLUME SET OF WWII booklets entitled "Combat Insignia Stamps of the United States Army & Navy Air Corps" & "War Insignia" including stamps created by Disney artists.
As explained in the booklet, "the use of corps insignia was originated through the necessity of distinguishing planes at times of poor visibility. Later, it developed that pride in organization, or the Spirit of the Corps, was equal in importance."Further, Disney studios was “deluged with requests for insignia,” seeking a whimsical interpretation of the military functions and notes. The book notes the first request came in 1939 from a cadet with the “Fighting Seven” squadron of the new navy carrier USS Wasp.
As also noted in the Volume 1. booklet, "EACH OF THE 50 ISSUES OF VOLUME 1 IS LIMITED IN NUMBER . . ." (caps added) All fifty stamps for this volume are included, with about 21 of these stamps bearing insignia created by Hank Porter and his team at Disney. The stamps are affixed as directed by the album and each album measures about 7.5" x 10.25".
The stamps are in excellent condition as mounted. The booklets show very little wear and markings. See photos for more details.
The original box does show wear and is torn with one edge of the front cover partially missing. No funny smell.
