Up for sale is this Collection of 4 Ancient Egyptian Ptolemaic Gilded Hair Rings (ca. 332-30 BCE). The partial gold hair coilweighs about 1.5 grams & .75” wide.This fragment has a thick body with wide terminals, and it exhibits attractive luster that is evocative of the opulence of ancient Egypt and Greece. The bronze hair coils (ranging in size from.75”-1.25" wide) have gilding apparent, indicating they were originally covered in gold. Hair rings like these were meant to secure and decorate the hair of wealthy women in the Classical world (both in life and on corpses that were mummified and buried). Provenance:ex-Dr. Gerald A.
