Antique 1880 - 1885 W. DUKE & SONS Tobacco Fancy Metal Advertising Clock RARITY.
Operating condition -This piece has been tested and only runs for a short period, the mechanism will need servicing.Features - VERY ornate HEAVY metal body - Open Escapement - New Haven Mechanism - Measured 14" X 15"
These clocks were distributed to retail outlets of the day to promote Duke & Sons Tobacco this was a marketing tactic to compete with the likes of Bull Durham and other large tobacco manufactures in the 1880s.Condition is as seen - Please see ALL photos you be the judge - NO dents cracks or damage - Is missing the round glass for the closure door and it shows gold finish loss MOSTLY on the sides because of handling over the last 140ish yrs -But this storied clock is very deserving of restoration to give it new life. With a new piece of glass and serviced mechanism and a choice to touch up the finish or leave it as is this would be a working beauty.
