Antique 19thC Swiss Cylinder Music Box Wood Case Tested 10 Songs For Sale

Music box made in Switzerland in the 19th century.It has a rectangular shape. On the front wall of the case there is a keyhole with a figurative overlay. The front side of the hinged lid shows images of musical instruments and vegetal ornamentation.Attached to the inside of the box is a colored label that lists the musical works put into the device (10 tunes popular in the 19th century). The box is still in working order.Inside the music box is a cylinder with pins and a metal piece that looks like a comb with teeth of different lengths. When the cylinder rotates, the pins hit the teeth of the comb in a certain order. If the teeth were long, the sound was low, if short, it was higher. The box also contained a spring mechanism that allowed the melody to sound longer. When the music ended, the cylinder would return to its original position.Making music boxes required jeweler's precision. Swiss craftsmen performed almost all operations by hand.The dimensions of the box are 19.5 " x 9.5 " x 6".The box works.
