Marked on the underside: "Favorite Bavaria, Hand-painted," which denotes production by the well-known porcelain firm, C. Hutschenreuther of Bavaria, Germany. "Favorite" was used as a special export mark for whitewares destined for the United States' market. During the early 20th Century, stylist women would have frequent dish painting parties, which were used to enhance their tea service. This tray was likely sold as a whiteware and decorated at one of these gatherings.
