Description In 1903 Marshall Fields, the Chicago high end retailer, added a metal foundry in their store to produce \"carriage trade\" metal good for their wealthy clients. This clock is an example of their work and is stamped with the notation, MADE IN OUR CRAFT SHOP, Marshall Fields & Co.. The decorative pattern of the case was called \"Hops Vine\" and the bronze case has a Gold Dore finish. This clock was in direct competition with products of Tiffany Furnaces in New York.
The movement is a high grade French 8 day time and strike movement from the Paris maker, Samuel Marti and is stamped accordingly. The clock was serviced some time back and runs and strikes the hours and half hours on a cathedral gong. The gold plated dial features raised numerals and is engraved with Marshall Fields & Co identification. The clock retains the original pendulum and original key. With the exception of some minor wear on the top of the case, the clock retains the original finish with applied patina and has not been disturbed. The clock stands 11\" tall with a 4\" dial.
A very fine example of a rare for of domestic metal craft. Pictures sell!
