Antique c.1914 Limoges Plate by Coiffe & LRL Handpainted Roses & Artist Signed:
$79.00

This is a lovely antique handpainted plate made of fine Limoges porcelain from France. The green backstamp, under the glaze, of the star with the word Limoges inside it, was used by the porcelain manufacturer Coiffe et Cie which was established in 1872 in Paris. They made tableware of the best quality. This particular backstamp was used from 1891 to 1914. On top of the glaze is the decorator backstamp by LRL, which stands for Lazeyras, Rosenfeld and Lehman, and was used starting around 1920. Because of the gap in time of when the plate was made (latest 1914) and when it was decorated (earliest 1920), it is reasonable to assume that the plate was stored during World War I and then sent to the decorators once WWI ended. The front of the plate also has the signature of the artist, I can’t make it out, it starts with an O and probably ends with a Y because of the long tail at the end. It is in brown on the edge of the plate under one of the yellow roses and can be seen in picture 6 or 7 (depending on whether has loaded the video in picture #2).

The plate is round and has scalloped edges painted with gold. It is slightly oval, and measures 10 & 1/2 inches the long way, and 10 inches in diameter everywhere else. The plate and the painting itself is in excellent antique condition. There is little wear to the painting, a few spots of wear here and there, and no cracks crazing or chips on the porcelain. The painting and the skill of the painter is amazing. Looking at the shading on the rose petals and leaves is so well done and realistic. A real piece of art!

Please zoom in on the pictures and see the 360 degree view for a closer look. (Sorry if the video is not there as the 2nd picture, it is taking longer than usual to review and allow the video to post).

I pack with lots of bubble wrap for safe shipping and ship out quickly, sometimes same day, always by next business day, and sometimes on Saturdays if I can make it to the post office before they close at noon.

Any questions, please ask, and thanks for looking!
