Rare Royal Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich Gold Stick Pin Royalty Crown Cipher:
$3749.96

LOT-GB32. For your consideration is an exceedingly rare and important original antique c.1890 royal imperial presentation stick pin with monogram MA by Fedor Lorie. Embellished with gold imperial monogram / cipher MA and royal crown, gemset with natural old mine rose cut diamonds and rubies. Royal presentation monogram stick pin is attributed to Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich (1878-1918). Weight: 4.9 grams. Imperial Russia monogram cipher measures approximately 30 x 23 mm. Overall length: 69 mm. Hallmarked 56 for Imperial Russian 14K gold, including workmaster marks for Fedor Lorié, also in Cyrillic.

Moscow firm "Lorie" was founded in 1871 by the jewelry and silverware factory owner Fedor Anatolyevich Lorie (1858-1920). In 1895, he opened a store selling jewelry on the Kuznetsky Most, 4 (through the wall with С. Faberge’s store).

In 1912, the firm was transformed into a Partnership with the conditional capital of 800,000 rubles, co-founded by the employees of the C. Faberge’s Moscow branch - Alexei Fedorovich Lemkul (in the 1900s the head of the gold department) and Julio (Julius Akimovich) Guarneri, who in the 1920's had worked with C. Faberge’s sons Eugene and Alexander in Paris. Perhaps F.A. Lorie realized orders for C. Faberge who controlled the production, marketing, and assortment of the Partnership.

The firm produced silverware, houseware, and interior items, a variety of frames for crystal and jewelry. With the highest craftsmanship, the technique of casting and minting was used, combined with the elements of stamped ornament. In the jewelry, they used enamel, supplementing the precious and ornamental stones. In stylistic terms, the items made by the firm were distinguished by great variety - from styling the ornaments of Western European and Russian art of the 17th-19th centuries to the modern and Neo-Russian styles.

In 1916, the company ceased operations.
