Antique Samuel Marti Et Cie French Pendulum Clock Brass Mantel Figural Thieble For Sale

Very elaborately decorated antique French mantel clock by Samuel Marti. He was awarded the Bronze Medal in Paris in 1860 for his clock designs. This one is brass & there is a boy on one side & a girl on the other side of the clock face. The boy holds a shepard\'s staff in his hand & the girl is holding the pendulum (in the picture). Maybe she was supposed to hold something else originally, I don\'t know. There are lots of swirls, flowers & leaves decorating it. Also, a bouquet of flowers at the top & another under the clock face. There is a replica of a fountain with water coming out of a lion\'s head between the children. The clock stands on 5 feet. It has the key for winding with it & the pendulum.The pendulum is a Thieble suspension pendulum bob, which appears in clock making in 1870. The count wheel (locking wheel) is used prior to 1880 only. So this clock was made between these years as it has both them items.The markings on the inside of the workings are: Medaille de Bronze, S Marti (the date is not readable). There is a number 1404 stamped on the left side & a 52 at the bottom (which should be the pendulum length). Also, someone has scratched HR 556 on it too. The pendulum reads \"R H 5421\" & an oval stamp that is not readable either.This is large, measuring 16 1/2\" wide x 14\" tall x 6\" deep. The boy & girl measure 7 1/2\" each. The clock weighs just under 11 lbs.Very good condition but dusty. Looks like someone has been polishing it as there is a little wax in a few of the creases. The glass over the clock face is missing & the minute hand is broken off but I do believe a replacement for these can be found on the internet.Not in working condition presently although I haven\'t tried winding it with the key as I do not know much about these types of clocks & don\'t want to damage it, as it looks like it has been taken care of & can be restored.Sold as is.
