Up for sale is a rare antique 1849s souvenir rock crystal seal in the original box!

The small rock crystal is hand carved with the incised seal of Mary Queen of Scots.

Box is marked " Queen Mary's Ring from the Collection of the Late Earl of Buchan"

The Earl of Buchan was a well known Scottish antiquary of the time. This seal is a facsimile of the original ring that he owned!
Mary Queen of Scots original ring was displayed in the Holyrood palace in 1843. These facsimiles were sold as souvenirs while it was on display.

In 2022 Sotheby's saleed off the same seal & box although the seal has been set into a gilt metal ring.
That achieved a price of £6048 at the time!

There is a small wax seal displaying the impression made by the seal.

Hand written note on the bottom reads " Bought in Edinburgh Castle, Scotland "

Seal appears to be in very good condition.
The box is still sturdy and isn't flaking or crumbling
The crystal seal measures about 0.5" long
The face of the seal measures approximately 0.3" across.
Box measures approx 0.8" x 1.6"
