Charlie Pratt is a Cheyenne-Arapaho artist. In 2002 he was given a “Lifetime Achievement” award from the Indian Arts and Crafts Association (IACA), and he was chosen as “The Honored One” for the 2002 Red Earth Festival in Oklahoma City. In 2003 the Gallup Inter- Tribal Ceremonial named him their “Ceremonial Living Treasure.” In 2004 the IACA again named him “Artist of the Year”, an award he also received in 1985, making him the first in IACA history to receive the honor twiceThis painting by Charlie is on brushed metal, which creates a very vibrant painting, the movement of light reflecting from the brushed metal seems to give the piece a 3 dimensional effect. I\'m guessing that this painting was also framed by Charlie. The wooden frame is painted with a rose-copper colored metallic paint that compliments the painting beautifully. And, it has been creatively matted, with what looks to be red marker or paint surrounding the metal and then brown mat and then a textured mat that looks to be fabric. The painting is covered with what feels to be plexiglass. The painting is titled \"Bad Boy\" on the back and is signed by Charlie in the lower right hand corner. The metal plate of the painting measures 15\" by 10 7/8\". With frame, it measures 24 1/4\" by 20 1/4. The wooden frame is a little loose at the corners. And underneath the paint the metallic paint, there are indentations of the wood that look like they might be original with the piece. Also, the fabric mat has some light scratches. The painting itself is in great condition. This painting was purchased from a local estate here in Sedona with several other pieces by Charlie that I will be listing on this week.Charlie is a self-taught artist and has been guided by his Cheyenne-Arapaho heritage. Pratt breathes a unique brand of Native American poetry into his creations and his art is not bound by any particular medium or scale. He molds large, small, and even miniature sculptures out of cast bronze, metal and stone. Striking color and texture are often added to his skillful use of silver and semi-precious stones, such as turquoise and coral.For more than forty years now, Charlie has competed in museum, fine art, and invitational shows throughout the United States.
