Description

Antique Civil War Era Photo Album With Civil War Generals and Patriotic CDVs

This stunning Civil War area photo album is being offered exactly as I found it, with nothing removed or added.

The album itself is made of leather and has a decorative design in gilt stamped on the page edges. There is a gold colored clasp, perhaps brass. Etched on the clasp is "G. E. Mills." It measures 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" x 2-1/2". The back endpapers have a decorativd geometical design.

This album contains cdv's and tintypes of children, men and women, many of which are identified. The family photographs appear to be from the 1860's and 1870's mainly and are of the Wilkerson, Frayn and Pratt families of southern Wisconsin and South Dakota. Many of the photographs are identified with comments in pencil in the photo albumThere are about 50 pieces in total, 8 being Civil War Generals and other patriotic cdv's and the remainder being family photos.

There is a cdv of a rather uncommon image published by the H Thurston , Herline & Co, titled "The Found and the Preserver of the Union [Apotheosis].

There are cdv's of General Grant, General Sherman, General Nathaniel Lyon (first Union General to be killed in the Civil War), General Ambrose Burnside, and General Oliver Otis Howard.

There are two color Civil War era cdv's in this album, one known as "Goddess of Liberty" and one known as "May Queen".

This photo album is in very good condition with just a little wear to the leather on the exterior. There is a little spotting on the last page. And as stated above there is pencil writing on many of the pages as well as a few smudges here and there.

A beautiful addition to your Photo Album Collection!
