Up for sale is a beautiful Bone China tea service from the RMS Queen Mary, currently moored in Long Beach, California serving as a permanent floating museum.
This tea service is an exact replica of the ones used in first class during the ship\'s Glory Days in the 1930s and early 1940s. Cunard commissioned cube style teapots like this one because they had a steadier base to endure the rocking of the ship and also because they stacked and stored better where storage space was limited. The Art Deco style of this service is classic and distinctive and offers a glimpse into first class life aboard a beautiful ship like The Queen Mary.
When making Transatlantic journeys during World War II, Prime Minister of Great Britain, Winston Churchill, took tea on a service exactly like this one. In fact the tea services used in his cabin and war room aboard The Queen Mary are currently on display. (Some of the above photos from the Queen Mary are of these displays)
Included in this set: a 3.5\"cube teapot, teapot lid, cube-shaped creamer, 2 cups,2 saucers and a dessert plate to graciously displaypastries or other sweet treats for your next tea party. (Tray in photo not included).
Everything comes in its original box. From my smoke free, pet free home.
This tea service is useful but also a magnificent piece of art and a thing of beauty to last for generations of use and enjoyment.
Happy buying.
