Up for for Consideration is a Very Beautiful Custom Made Georgian Era 1820\'s-40\'s German Stag Horn Handled, Ornately Etched Double Blade Fighting Dagger with with Sheath.
c1790\'s-1840
Wonderful; Georgian German Stag Horn Fighting or Hunting Dagger with finely etched blade .Possible Cut down from a Sword, this unmarked Double Edged Dagger Blade measures 9.25 inches long with a 2.50 inch Brass Cross Guard, 4.5 inch Stag Horn Tang Grip with a German Silver Pommel End and German Silver Tang. The Dagger itself appears completely hand forged and is unsigned. The entire length of the Dagger is 14 .0 inches end to end. The working of the Blade is of high quality, indicating that it was carried out by a qualified blade-smith. The original guard inlet in the pommel has been carefully filled, the crosspiece are intact and tight.
The 9.25 inches blade is in good condition with a mild salt and pepper patina present. The blade retains its fighting edge and has a few minor edge nicks, testifying to its use. The blade is period acid etched decorations the appear on either side.
The Dagger/Dirk is in overall good condition with areas of field use though very tight. The blade is firm in the hilt.(Note images)
This Dagger comes with its Brass and Leather sheath in good but used condition. We though feel that the Sheath is not original to this piece and may have been designed by a contemporary maker just for this Dagger or possibly restored as the brass hardware just doesn\'t look period to us. The Sheath does fit the Dagger perfectly though!
