DESCRIPTION
For sale is a 101/2” x 8 1/4” third class dinner menu from the SS Normandie, dated August 27,1938. It is printed on what feels like construction paper. All 4 pages havebeen scanned. This menu has had just one owner. My Great Aunt was on thisvoyage and I recently went through her scrapbook and found this menu. There aresome small spots with foxing and you will notice there is a 1/2” tear in thetop seam and a 1” tear in the bottom seam, probably so the ribbon could beattached to the menu. Your menu will be mailed via USPS enclosed in plastic andbacked by cardboard.
The captionunder the picture on the cover reads: TheSphinx, the first steamship of the French navy, launched in 1829.
The SS Normandie entered service in 1935,sailing between Le Havre and Southampton, New York. At the time the Normandiewas the largest and fastest passenger ship afloat, and remains the most powerfulsteam turbo-electric propelled passenger ship ever built and is considered bymany to be the greatest of ocean liners.
