A large 18.5 x 22.5 inch photo poster that shows what appears to be inspection of troops and their flag. Translation on the flag is \"308th Latvian Rifle(-men) Red Band Division\". The photo is mounted on a thick board, with loops on the back for hanging up.
What\'s also interesting is that there is another photo on the back, showing what I believe to be an Army General (Soviet), 4 stars (second highest rank behind Marshall), chatting and discussing photos on a wall with troops. Maybe one of the Generals killed in the purge? Which could explain the reuse.
Although the division was active in WW2, I do not believe they were active after that so this might be some kind of parade with vets or even a victory day celebration.Part of a group of 6 found together, all of similar content. In one particular photo in this group, the shoulder boards on two generals are Marshall of the Soviet Union, the highest rank possible. I have identified the Marshalls as Aleksandr Vasilevsky, and Matvei Zakharovc. The date range for these two both being Marshall at the same time is 1959 to 1971 so this would be the actual date range of these posters. Check them out in my other listings.
