Original 1938 UK Edition WILD WEST WEEKLY Pulp Magazine Cowboys Redskins Comics

Completeoriginal issue of the October 23, 1938 issue of Wild West,a large-format western-themed pulp magazine published weekly by theAmalgamated Press, London. The magazine measures 12½" x9½" and has 28 pages. The bold colorful photogravure artwork on thefront cover is unsigned, but was likely painted by noted illustratorDerek Charles Eyles, who did many covers for the magazine. The artwork illustrates the first story in the issue, titled "You'veGotta Guard Your Gold," a gold-mining yarnwith Derek Dunn battling bad-guy claim jumpers.Other stories in the issue include "Alonzo and the Forty Theives,You Can't Catch a Shadow, Three Just Outlaws, Hardbake's HappyLanding,"and "Screever Up the Spout."Inside the front cover there's a serialized comic strip of "BuffaloBill Among Redskins" On page 23 there's a column of ads for variousnovelties, including a magicnose flute, jumping bean, disguise outfit, pea pistol, and a whoopeecushion. This issue of Wild West is identified as VolumeOne, Number 33. It was printed by the SunEngraving Company and is an excellent example of the pre-WW2 pulpfiction magazines that focusedon the American West ofthe 19th and early 20th century. It is also a hard-to-find magazine, having folded after only 50 issues. It was published in Englandby the Amalgamated Press, Ltd., The Fleetway House, Farringdon Street,London, E.C. 4, from March 12, 1938 to February 18, 1939.Condition: This issue of Wild Westis complete and intact, in good, lightly used condition. It's a bit raggedy at the center fold, and there's some slight roundingat the corners and a couple of tiny chips and small edge tears. Theinside pages wereprinted on a lightweight newsprint paper which has softened and tonedwith age. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.Buy with confidence!
