Antique 11\" Pewter
Single Reed Edge Deep Plate or Charger
Love Mark
Philadelphia Pennsylvania

For Your Antique American Pewter An antique pewter large and deep plate or charger having the typical Love mark used in and around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in late 18th century and early 19th century (late 1700s and early 1800s). The charger has a mark showing two birds kissing under a crown and splitting the word LOVE (see mark 207 in Jacob\'s Guide to American Pewter Book) and is also marked with the word LONDON and the quality mark of a crowned X. This plate is ~11\" in diameter with a single reed edge being ~1 1/4\" wide. The plate has a depressed center decorated with an incised line near where the edge starts with a rounded edge. The rim itself also has no decoration. The pewter plate is ~11\" in diameter and ~1 1/2\" in height. The plate has a deep center with a decorative incised line along its periphery. The plate shows many utensil marks, scratches and pitting. It has light dings and signs of toning. A well used antique pewter plate with very obvious and well defined marks. A nice antique pewter charger, which would make a nice addition to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

  • Date: Late 1700s to early 1800s.
  • Origin: Was purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The plate was made in the Philadelphia Pennsylvania area.
  • Size: The charger measures ~11\" in diameter, is ~1 1/2\" high, and weighs about one pound ~15 ounces.
  • Maker: Love in or near Philadelphia.
  • Marks: The plate has a mark showing two birds kissing under a crown and splitting the word LOVE and is also marked with the word LONDON and the quality mark of a crowned X (see mark 207 in Jacob\'s Guide to American Pewter Book).
  • Condition: The charger is in good condition given its age (over 200 years old) and utilitarian function. It has no breaks, cracks, or repairs. The plate has a light gray age patina and shows a lot of character. It shows many utensil marks and scratches as well as some pitting. It has light dings and signs of toning. This is a well used antique pewter charger with very obvious and well defined marks. Be that as it may, the piece is very nice and worthy of a spot in your collection of antique pewter. It would probably benefit from a good cleaning to bring out its full beauty, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Please see photo for additional condition information.
