For sale are TWO RARE! matching HUSBAND AND WIFE PAIRED Early 19th century pre Victorian era leather covered letter/document/valuable/desk box with original locks and brass fixtures. The lid of each box contains an engraved owners name tag. One is for “Theodore B. Moody” and the other “Adelaide M. Moody”. The black leather covering features embossed diamond form design on the top and is in great condition for all sides considering its age. The bottom of each box is uncovered. you can see many irregular hand wrought iron nails, a clear indicator of its old age.
The box is in overall great condition. The original brass top handles are both present and secure. The exterior of the box is decorated with many brass pins at the corners and edges (a few of them are missing). The interior of the box contains the original blue and white wall paper covering. It has some stains commensurate with age, but not bad. All six sides of the leather covering are in great condition, no major cracks or losses. Both boxes show nice antique patina and are very sturdy box. See photos from all six sides for detailed condition. The price is for TWO BOXES. I would not sell them separately.
Overall, this is a rare-to-find matching pair of classical pre Victorian leather covered wooden boxes waiting to be add to the collections of any serious antique woodwork/ leatherwork /box collectors. It would make a very special anniversary present for history/antique-loving couples!
Each box measures 14.5” W x 9” D x 9” H. There are some minor light surface scratches commensurate with age. Please check the photos carefully for the condition of all sides.
