This amazing no 25.2 Finnish hewing axe (Piilukirveita) is not marked but has great tough steel that takes a very keen edge. I hung it on a 25\" custom made fire hardened ash handle and made sure the cutting edge was centered and perfectly aligned with the haft on both axis. This type of traditional hewing axe was used to smooth out the outside walls of a house after it was built with sawn timber. The rough surface left by the sawing action was prone to retaining moisture, fungi and insects. The very smooth surface left by the hewing allowed the wooden house to last much longer. THis axe has no flat side like most american hewing axes and is symmetrical, so it can be used in a variety of positions, left or right handed. It is very sharp so please be careful.
