Rare 1904 US Navy 1st Torpedo Flotilla USS Bainbridge Decatur Chauncey Dale +:
$144.99

Approximate size: 10 inches x 8 inches

This rare cabinet card depicts several United States warships not often seen: USS Chauncey DD-3, USS Dale DD-4, USS Decatur DD-5, USS Barry DD-2, and USS Bainbridge DD-1. The Bainbridge was the very first US destroyer class ship, which is pretty interesting.

I think this is a print based on a photo mounted onto a cabinet card. I don\'t believe it\'s an actual photo, but I put it in the \"photograph\" category, because photos are most often what a cabinet card is comprised of, and there doesn\'t seem to be a better category for something of this unusual make. It\'s not a typical print, but it\'s also not a typical photo.

In terms of rarity, most of these warships don\'t have anything relating to them for sale online (at the time of writing this). I found one photo out of all of them after a cursory search, and there definitely isn\'t anything depicting all of them at once, making this piece seemingly very rare.

USS Bainbridge DD-1:

The second USS Bainbridge was the first destroyer, also called \"Torpedo-boat destroyers\", in the United States Navy and the lead ship of the Bainbridge-class. She was named for William Bainbridge. Bainbridge was commissioned 12 February 1903. She served in the Asiatic Fleet before World War I and served in patrol and convoy duty during the war. She was decommissioned 3 July 1919.
