Hi there,
I'm selling a really interesting recent find.
It is looking tired and rather well used.
But as this was issued during the Second World War, in 1943, i think it's doing very well for its age.
I know very little about WW2 tank gunsights, but luckily, it is clearly marked.
No.33 Mk111 S, O.S. 806-G.A. then 1943 and No38386 and the broad arrow of the War Dept.
Please see the photos and feel free to ask any questions.
From what i can tell, this was used in Churchil and Crusader Tanks with 2 pounder, 15mm or a 3" Howitzer, and a machine gun.
Though i'm not entirely sure. The graticules are marked for "Gun" and "MG"
It's quite amazing to think how, when, and where this was used?
Who knows what battles this was involved in?
And why was it saved...? Was this the sight that saved a life?
With the serial numbers i wonder if it's possible to track which unit and what tank this was in?
It weighs a healthy 2.9 kilos and is 44 cm long and has some slight rust at the end.
The rubber eyepiece is still flexible. You can still see through it and count the graticules.
It's a dirty view...it would love an internal clean... but wouldn't we all?
I feel sure there must be someone who thinks this lost World War Two gunsight is worth owning and preserving.
I will pack it very carefully for travel.
Thanks for looking, and i'm always open to reasonable offers.
