Antique 10 \" Pottery Vase or large pot featuring a unique fire-breathing horse and two dragons with wonderful artwork and under-glaze crazing. It has no chips or cracks outside of the beautiful under-glaze crazing that should be well documented in the photographs. It\'s about 7 inches at the widest hip point.
This piece came to my parents from my great-grandfather\'s estate back in the 1960s. Col. Horace Seaman, who once was in the cavalry during the Spanish-American war, and had been a great collector of pottery and other artifacts from around the world. He was particularly fond of oriental pottery, so this is probably part of that collection.
The art work on this piece is particularly well executed, especially the winged-horse and other winged creatures with flames shooting from their mouths. Glazing is superb.
Unfortunately, I could find no artist signatures or pottery marks of any kind. But, probably there are experts in the field who would recognize work like this and identify it. I would be glad to hear from you. The vase weighs about 3.5 pounds.
