This is a gorgeous old piece of Masonic history.
I have no way of knowing for sure, but the person I acquired it from said they thought it was from the first Omaha Prince Hall Mason Lodge in the late 1880s or 1890s.
It definitely has age to it but it is in beautiful condition. Very intricate crochet with the word "Mason" spelled out above the compass. The cotton it's made from is in soft condition with the fringe edges adding a touch of whimsy.
As with most cotton doilies from the time, there is some minor yellowing, but no staining. There are a few repairs made to some stitches, as shown in photos.
Perhaps most importantly, it does not have a musty smell or the grimy feel many older pieces like this can sometimes have.
