Reliquary w relics of 3 Martyrs: St. Manuel, St. Savel and St. Ismail + DocumentSaints Martyr Manuel, Savel and Ismail (d. June 17, 362) are Christian martyrs, commemorated in the Orthodox Church on June 17 (according to the Julian calendar).
Biography:According to the life, Manuel, Savel and Ismail were brothers and came from the family of a noble pagan Persian. Their mother was a Christian and raised her sons in her faith; they were baptized by Presbyter Eunoikos. In adulthood, they were enlisted in the army of the Girenian king Adamundar. The brothers were sent to Emperor Julian for peaceful negotiations on border affairs. They were received with honor, but during a pagan festival in Chalcedon they refused to take part in it, which aroused the wrath of Julian. After the brothers refused to renounce the Christian faith, they were tortured:First of all, they were stripped naked and, laying them on the ground, they beat them without mercy with harsh belts on the spine and stomach, and then they hung them in a painful place, nailing their arms and legs high to a tree, and planed their entire body with iron teeth. After the torture, Manuel, Savel and Ismail were beheaded.
