This listing is for an absolutely gorgeous (and rare) brownaragonite tower from the Himalayas. Brown aragonite is a rare and excitingmineral which is found in the Afghanistan and Pakistan Himalayas. This stunningcalcite is still very rare in the West but we think it is destined to become extremelypopular in the same way that Caribbean calcite did in recently. We have managedto secure a deal with local Himalayan dealers and at the time of writing, weare the only major UK suppliers of this wonderful banded aragonite. Brownaragonite shows beautiful dark brown and light brown or tan banding andpatterns. This superb aragonite freeformcomes from the Himalayan region of Balochistan, Pakistan.

Brown aragonite is very tactile and may have natural crystalcavities / matrix/ unpolished areas which is a big part of the charm of thismineral. A LITTLE MORE INFORMATION ON CALCITE vs ARAGONITE:
You may think of carbon as an element that on Earth is foundmainly in living things (that is, in organic matter) or in the atmosphere ascarbon dioxide. Both of those geochemical reservoirs are important, of course,but the vast majority of carbon is locked up in carbonate minerals. These areled by calcium carbonate, which takes two mineral forms named calcite andaragonite.

Aragonite and calcite have the same chemical formula, CaCO3,but their atoms are stacked in different configurations. That is, they arepolymorphs. (Another example is the trio of kyanite, andalusite, andsillimanite.) Aragonite has an orthorhombic structure and calcite a trigonalstructure. Calcite is more stable in general than aragonite, althoughas temperatures and pressures change one of the two minerals may convert to theother. At surface conditions, aragonite spontaneously turns into calcite overgeologic time, but at higher pressures aragonite, the denser of the two, is thepreferred structure. High temperatures work in calcite\'s favour. At surfacepressure, aragonite can\'t endure temperatures above around 400°C for long.
