That drawer, with its hundreds of stacked tearsheets, newspaper clippings, gallery announcements and other ephemera, is documented in a new book entitled, simply and inevitably, The Drawer. Aletti’s 75 multilayered compositions are testimony to the author’s unique ability to voice the complexity and variety of desire, personal and collective histories, and the power of art to reflect and shape who we are.
Born in Philadelphia, legendary photography critic, writer, art collector and curator Vince Aletti has been a New Yorker since 1968. Synonymous with disco, a genre he was immersed in as it defined itself, writing weekly on the subject for four years from 1974, Aletti became more and more involved with the photography community, considering images, exhibitions and books; and at one time curator of the Wessel & O\'Connor Gallery exhibits in New York.
